Fran Swanson is the Sidley Austin LLP Appellate Advocacy Fellow in honor of Mark E. Herzog. She represents Legal Aid clients before the D.C. Court of Appeals and other appellate bodies and presents the views of Legal Aid as a friend of the court. Fran joined Legal Aid after clerkships with the Honorable Judith W. Rogers on the United States Court of Appeals for the D.C. Circuit and the Honorable Stephen A. Higginson on the United States Court of Appeals for the Fifth Circuit. 

She graduated with honors from Harvard Law School and Harvard College, where she concentrated in History and Literature. Between college and law school, she worked as a campaign organizer in Iowa and then as a press secretary and legislative aide in Congress.
