Lakecia King
Safe Housing for Survivors
Lakecia King, a survivor of domestic violence, needed to move to keep herself and her three children safe from her abuser. But errors at the DC Housing Authority (DCHA) related to her subsidized housing voucher kept her stuck in her unsafe housing, falling behind on rent payments, and facing eviction. Ms. King connected with Legal Aid DC attorney Matt Boucher, who negotiated with DCHA to issue an emergency transfer voucher and pay $12,000 in rent to prevent her eviction. After resolving her housing issues, Ms. King was able to move into a new, safe home with her children.
